The UNESCO-Verlab Institute Call for Remote Access to High-Performance Computing (HPC) for research and Innovation in Life Sciences

In alignment with the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science and UNESCO’s Remote Access to Lab Equipment (UNESRALE) Initiative, The Verlab Institute in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in collaboration with UNESCO, is launching a targeted virtual capacity-building programme aimed at empowering young researchers and scientists with the tools and knowledge needed to transform their scientific ideas into successful entrepreneurial ventures. This dynamic initiative will combine remote access to High-Performance Computing (HPC) sandbox with individualized mentorship and specialized innovation training to promote innovation in the following fields: 1) Artificial Intelligence in healthcare and diagnostics, 2) Simulation and modeling in biomedical sciences, 3) Data science in environmental and public health, 4) Neuroscience, epigenetics and computational biology and 5) Digital health and e-health innovation. The applicants will be supported in simulations in life sciences, AI model training, signal processing, and other computationally demanding tasks.

The program is open to MSc and PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, junior faculty members within five years of earning their PhD. Eligible applicants must demonstrate a clearly defined research project or innovative idea, strong proficiency in English, and a clear motivation to explore entrepreneurship and computational tools within their field. Participation is open to researchers working in Ukraine, South-East Europe – including Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia- as well as in all African countries, with selection based on merit and diversity.

Deadline for submitting applications: 15 October 2025
